Frequently Asked Questions

Clear answers about safe, doctor-prescribed mobile IV therapy in Brisbane, Gold Coast & Northern Rivers NSW.

At The Vitamin Guy, every home and hotel IV drip is GP assessed, prescription-based, and nurse delivered. These FAQs explain how our mobile IV therapy works so you can decide, with your own doctor, what’s right for you.

Safety & clinical basics
What is IV nutrient therapy?

IV nutrient therapy is where doctor-prescribed vitamins and minerals (for example vitamin C, B-complex and magnesium) are delivered through a drip by an AHPRA-registered nurse. The IV route bypasses digestion so the prescribed dose can be delivered more predictably. This page is educational only and does not replace advice from your own GP.

How is it different from oral supplements?

Oral supplements move through the gut, where absorption can vary with digestion, gut health and medicines. IV delivery is direct into the bloodstream, as prescribed by the GP. Daily oral supplements are still appropriate for many people and may be all that is required — your GP will guide you.

Is it safe? Who administers it?

Safety starts with a separate GP consultation and written prescription. The GP reviews your history, medicines and test results (if available) and decides whether mobile IV therapy is appropriate.

On the day, your infusion is performed by an AHPRA-registered, hospital-trained nurse who:

  • ✅ Checks your ID, allergies and consent
  • ✅ Records vital signs before, during and after the drip
  • ✅ Uses sterile technique and single-use equipment
  • ✅ Monitors closely for any side effects or reactions
  • ✅ Carries emergency equipment (airway support and EpiPens®)

Medicines are stored in hospital-grade fridges to protect quality and stability.

Do I need blood tests first?

Not always. Your GP may order pathology tests if there is concern about nutrient levels, kidney function, iron, B12 or other clinical issues. Testing helps ensure that any IV therapy is appropriate and safe for you personally.

How long does a mobile IV session take?

Most standard infusions run for around 30–60 minutes once the drip is started. Some specialised protocols or higher-volume bags can take longer, and your nurse will let you know the expected time at your visit.

How often should I book?

There is no one-size-fits-all schedule. Frequency depends on your overall health, test results and your GP’s plan. Some people may start with more frequent visits and move to a maintenance pattern; others may only ever require oral options. Your own GP remains the main decision-maker.

Products, service areas & pricing
What IV products and nutrients do you use?

We work with Australian suppliers and pharmacies. Where available, we use TGA-listed medicines for IV nutrients and hydration. If there is no appropriate ARTG product, or a tailored strength is needed, a licensed Australian compounding pharmacy prepares the medicine under lawful compounding exemptions.

All IV nutrients are made in an Australian TGA-licensed GMP compounding facility and stored according to the manufacturer and pharmacy requirements. You can also learn more about individual vitamins and minerals in our Learn Hub.

Who is mobile IV therapy suitable for?

Our service is generally for adults aged 18+, following independent GP assessment and prescription. Certain medical conditions, pregnancy, medicines or test results may mean that IV therapy is not appropriate. Your GP will always decide what is clinically suitable.

What areas do you cover?

We provide mobile IV therapy across:

Sessions can be done at home, in suitable hotel rooms, or at workplaces and private events, as long as the environment meets our safety and access checks.

Are there risks or side effects?

All medical procedures carry risk. With IV therapy, possible side effects may include:

  • Vein irritation, bruising or temporary discomfort at the drip site
  • • Feeling light-headed, flushed or tired during or after the infusion
  • Reactions to ingredients or fluids, which can be serious but are rare

We screen carefully beforehand, monitor vital signs during the infusion and carry emergency equipment. For urgent symptoms at any time, call 000 or attend the nearest emergency department.

What is the GP fee and how is pricing shown?

A one-off $50 GP fee applies at your first booking to cover the independent medical assessment and prescription. In most cases, this prescription is valid for 6 months, subject to your GP’s clinical judgement.

Your infusion pricing is shown up-front before you confirm your booking. Any travel or after-hours fees are also disclosed transparently so there are no surprises.

What is your cancellation and refund policy?

We know life happens — sickness, kids, work and traffic are real. Our goal is to be fair and reasonable, not to punish you for needing to change plans.

✔ 24+ hours before your appointment:
If you cancel at least 24 hours before your booked time, we’ll provide a full refund to your original payment method (or keep it as a credit if you’d prefer).

✔ Inside 24 hours:
Within 24 hours, your prescription has usually been actioned, your IV made up by the pharmacy, and your nurse’s time reserved. In these cases we will work with you one-on-one — for example by:

  • Rescheduling your session where possible, or
  • • Providing a full or partial credit to use within your valid prescription period.

The exact outcome depends on how close to your appointment you cancel and what costs have already been incurred, but our starting point is always to be as generous as we can, especially for genuine illness or emergencies.

Full details are set out in the booking terms you see before you pay, so you can review everything in plain language and ask questions if anything is unclear.
